Overview
MFA or 2 step factor authentication is a method to confirm a user's identity only after they present two pieces of evidence.
Authentication factors:
- something the person knows (password, PIN, code)
- something the person possesses (an authentication device such as a phone, key, chip card)
- something the person is (biometrics: finger printing, iris or retina recognition, voice)
- something the person can do (e.g. a handwritten signature).
The combination of at least two of these factors is one (but not the only) condition in creating a strong authentication system.
Everyone who has a Central College account is required to use a 2nd method of two-factor authentication, aka MFA.
You will need to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to complete the MFA process.
For more information on what two-factor authentication is and how Central College uses it, see this Knowledge Base article. If you need assistance setting up two-factor authentication, click the "Request Service" button on the upper right.
Your use of two-factor authentication depends upon how you elect to receive the second request for identity confirmation. The second authentication method is either receive a text code or authenticate through the Microsoft Authenticator app. To review options, see this Knowledge Base article.
You can change or add a MFA authentication method by going to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo in any browser.
