Select the Video or Audio-only Call buttons to place a call. Any call in Teams can be a video call or an audio-only call.

  • Answering a call is simple, too. Select Video call  or Audio call  when prompted. When someone calls you, you'll get a notification that lets you accept or decline the call. Selecting Video Call will enable your webcam.
  • An audio-only call connects you with your webcam turned off. You can choose to then turn it on if necessary.

Either type of Microsoft Teams call will allow you to share content, invite others into the discussion and more.

Make a call from call history in the Calls view

Access your call history and quickly call anyone back.

  • Go to Calls and review the History section in the center of the screen.
  • Select any item from the list and then choose the Call button in the Details section on the right side of Teams.

Note: You can also select the More Options ellipses to choose to Call back, Chat, Add to speed dial or Add contact for the selected item in call history.

To review a list of calls you’ve missed, lists of calls that came in, and your voicemail, select between the available filters at the top of the call history list.

Make a call from voicemail in the Calls view

From your voicemail, you can quickly call back anyone who has left a message.

  • To access your voicemail, go to History and select Voicemail in the upper-right corner.
  • To call someone back from your voicemail, select More actions  next to their name > Call back  from the call history list. Alternately, select Call under the contact details.

Make a call from your contacts

Select Calls  > Contacts in the upper-left of Teams. From here, call anyone by selecting Call to the right of their name.

Use the dial pad

To dial a number from Teams, go to Calls, and then enter the number of the person you want to reach by using the dial pad. Then select Call.

You can also type in the name of a person or group and call them from the dial pad.

Hover over a profile picture to make a call

Throughout the Teams app, you will find profile pictures of people you're connected with (sometimes people choose avatars, or you might just see their initials.)

At any time, you can mouse over a profile picture, and you will see options to make a video or an audio-only call to that person. Choose one of those options and your call will begin.

Troubleshooting

If you experience poor audio or video quality, use the More menu to view Device settings and Call Health.

  • Confirm both audio output and microphone input are adjusted and responding appropriately.
  • Adjust noise suppression settings from the same menu.
  • If issues continue during the call, we recommend taking a screenshot of the data metrics displayed in Call health, located in the More Actions… menu at the top of the call window. These data metrics can be shared with the ITS Help Desk to help troubleshoot.

Note: Call health is only available on Teams-to-Teams calls.
